SEASONS

The four divisions of the year marked by specific weather patterns and daylight hours are named:

spring | summer | autumn (fall) | winter

Why We Use Them

We use the season to describe periods of the year with distinct weather patterns and activities.

When to Use Them

When planning long-term activities, gardening, travel, or discussing annual changes.

Example Sentences

1. Spring is my favorite season.

2. It’s very hot in the summer.

3. The leaves change color in autumn.

4. We build snowmen in winter.

5. Flowers bloom in the spring.

6. We go to the beach in the summer.

7. Autumn brings cooler weather.

8. Winter is a time for drinking hot chocolate.

9. The days get longer in spring.

10. Summer vacations are the best.

Note: Seasons are generally written in lowercase in most contexts.

  • Seasons are written in lowercase when used in general text.

"We go to the beach in the summer."

"She loves the colors of autumn."

  • Seasons are capitalized when they are part of a title, heading, or the name of an event.

"Winter Wonderland Festival"

"Spring Sale Event"

  • When seasons are personified or used as part of a proper noun.

"Spring has finally arrived, bringing joy and renewal."

"We go to the Winter Sales."

Idioms Using Seasons

  1. "In the dead of winter" - During the coldest, darkest part of winter.

    "In the dead of winter, we enjoy cozying up by the fireplace with a good book."

  2. "Spring into action" - To act quickly and energetically.

    "As soon as the alarm went off, the firefighters sprang into action."

  3. "A winter's tale" - A fanciful or improbable story, often told for entertainment.

    "Grandpa always has a winter's tale ready to tell us when we visit."
