ENGLISH BASICS

MONTHS

The year is divided into twelve parts, each with a specific name and number of days. Each month having 4-5 weeks and 28-31 days.

Why We Use Them

We use months to organize time, plan events, and record dates that cover a long period of time.

When to Use Them

We use them when we are referencing specific times of the year for past, current and future events, and seasons.

Example Sentences

1. January is the first month of the year.

2. Their anniversary is in April.

3. We go on vacation in July.

4. The school year starts in September.

5. The last month is December.

6. The flowers bloom in May.

7. He was born in February.

8. The weather gets colder in November.

9. They celebrate their graduation May or June.

10. The conference is in October.

Idioms Using Months

  1. "Mad as a March hare" - Describes someone who is behaving in a crazy or unpredictable manner.

    "Ever since she started planning her wedding, she's been as mad as a March hare with all the decisions she has to make."

  2. "April showers bring May flowers" - Good things often follow difficult situations; hardships often lead to better outcomes.

    "Though the past few months have been tough, remember that April showers bring May flowers, and things will get better soon."

  3. "A cold day in July" - Something highly unlikely or improbable.

    "She'll admit she was wrong when there's a cold day in July."
