A preposition is a word that shows the relationship between a noun or pronoun and other words in a sentence.

Why we use them?
Prepositions are used to indicate location, direction, time, or method.
When to use them?
Use prepositions to link nouns, pronouns, or phrases to other words within a sentence.

EXAMPLE SENTENCES

The book is on the table.
She went to the market.
The cat is under the bed.
He walked through the park.
The keys are in the drawer.

TYPE OF PREPOSITIONS

Prepositions of Time: Indicate when something happens.
Examples: at, on, in, before, after, during, until, since, by
Usage: at 3 PM, on Monday, in the morning, before lunch, after dinner, during the meeting, until Friday, since January, by 2025
Prepositions of Place: Indicate where something is located.
Examples: at, on, in, by, next to, between, among, over, under, above, below, inside, outside, behind, in front of, near, beside
Usage: at the park, on the table, in the room, by the river, next to the school, between the buildings, among the trees, over the bridge, under the bed, above the clouds, below the surface, inside the box, outside the house, behind the door, in front of the car, near the station, beside the lake
Prepositions of Direction/Movement: Indicate movement or direction.
Examples: to, from, into, out of, toward, away from, through, across, up, down, along, past, around
Usage: to the store, from the office, into the room, out of the building, toward the finish line, away from the noise, through the tunnel, across the street, up the hill, down the stairs, along the path, past the library, around the corner
Prepositions of Manner: Indicate how something is done.
Examples: by, with, without, like
Usage: by car, with enthusiasm, without hesitation, like a pro
Prepositions of Agent or Instrument: Indicate the agent performing an action or the instrument used.
Examples: by, with
Usage by the artist, with a pen
Prepositions of Cause, Reason, or Purpose: Indicate the reason for or purpose of an action.
Examples: for, because of, due to, out of
Usage: for health reasons, because of the rain, due to the delay, out of curiosity
