VERBS

"Be" verbs are verbs that show a state, condition, or identity. They include am, is, are, was, were, be, being, and been. "Be" verbs often stand alone and describe what something or someone is or was.

  • Why We Use Them
    "Be" verbs are essential for describing people, places, things, and situations. They tell us what something is (identity), how something feels (state), or where something is (location).

  • When We Use Them
    We use "be" verbs in simple sentences to describe states or to link subjects with descriptions or information. They are also used in forming the continuous and passive verb forms
